MOQ Negotiation Guide for Kids Dress Importers
Jul 27, 2026 · Kids Dress Wholesale Team

Minimum Order Quantity is the single number that decides your cash flow, your risk, and your speed to market. Yet most importers treat it as fixed. It isn’t.
Two Different Minimums
You will usually encounter two numbers:
- Stock MOQ — buy existing styles, low barrier (often 50 pieces, mixed sizes & colors). Fast, low risk.
- OEM MOQ — custom design / private label, higher barrier (often 300 pieces per style). Better margin, longer lead time.
New importers should start with stock MOQ to validate demand, then graduate to OEM once a style proves itself.
What Pushes Minimums Up
Customization is the lever. Each of these typically raises your MOQ or cost:
- Custom dye / Pantone matching
- Embroidered logos or woven labels
- New prints or silhouettes
- Special packaging (FNSKU, palletization)
Tactics to Lower Risk
- Mix sizes and colors within a style to hit MOQ without betting on one variant.
- Start with stock, prove the sell-through, then negotiate OEM on the winners.
- Bundle related categories (dress + matching accessories) to lift basket size without more SKUs.
- Confirm lead times in writing — sample 3–7 days, bulk 15–25 days is a healthy benchmark.
A supplier who is transparent about MOQ, lead time, and inspection process is worth more than one who simply quotes the lowest number.
Final Word
MOQ is not a wall — it is a dial. Learn which levers move it, start small with stock, and scale into OEM as your data tells you what sells.
